Rain grew up on the West side of Detroit. He was influence early on by the music of the Funkadelic's, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones and NWA. He gives credit to his Father and Uncle for this early exposure, he ultimately fell in love with the creativity and the lyrical word play of hip-hop. This love inspires his passion that was sparked by a lunchroom cipher at Redford High School.
